BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres

Friendship Centres provide services to Indigenous people living in urban settings all across Canada. BCAAFC is the umbrella organization for the 25 Friendship Centres in British Columbia. The mandate of BCAAFC is to promote the betterment of BC’s Friendship Centres and to maintain communication with the National Association of Friendship Centres.

United Native Nations Society (UNNS)

The mandate of the UNNS is to work toward the betterment of Aboriginal people living off reserve in BC. Qualification for membership in the UNNS is based solely on Aboriginal ancestry, not on definitions created by the outdated Indian Act. The major concern of the UNNS is to represent and protect the interest of Aboriginal people who currently have no voice in government decisions affecting them.

New Relationship Trust (NRT)

NRT administers funds transferred to it by the government of BC for the benefit of the province’s First Nations. Based on extensive consultations with First Nations communities, NRT is funding initiatives in five priority areas: education, capacity, economic development, youth & Elders, and culture & language. The goal of the NRT is to build strong, healthy, prosperous, and independent First Nations within BC.
