Children are the future of a community, so supporting good outcomes for children is the most important responsibility a community has. ANPs help provide that support. Among the services they offer are prenatal health advice, parenting courses, and Head Start programs. To encourage children to identify with their heritage, ANP programs incorporate traditional culture, recreational activities, and food.
BC’s Federation of Aboriginal Foster Parents comprises caregivers of Aboriginal children from all regions of the province. It was formed to meet the unique needs of these caregivers and their communities. Funded by the Ministry for Children and Family Development, the Federation reflects the government’s desire to embark on a new path of co-operation with Aboriginal peoples.
GCFSS strives to ensure that Gitxsan children and their families are strong, healthy, and safe. Its programs balance traditional culture with the modern context. GCFSS serves the communities of Kispiox, Glen Vowell, Gitsegukla, Gitsegukla, and Gitanyow, as well as Gitxsan people living off reserve.
Denisiqi Services Society is based on the philosophy of families helping each other within the community. Aboriginal people are responsible for their own future, and that means it is important for our children to have a safe, caring, and loving environment.

Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House is a gathering place for Vancouver east residents of all ages, cultures and walks of life. It provide a broad range of accessible, free, and affordable programs for children, youth, families, seniors, and adults, as well as volunteer and leadership opportunities. The goal of Cedar Cottage is to enable people to enhance their lives and strengthen their communities.
Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) has been offering holistic wellness services to member Nations for over 25 years. The organization was created to reassert First Nations control of justice, health, social, and family services, all of which suffered during colonization. CSFS programs are built on a strong cultural foundation blended with leading evidence-based approaches.
Today’s families are diverse: same-sex parents, single parents, couples, adoptive parents and grandparents. The BC Council for Families is dedicated to providing education programs and resources that help all families grow stronger. The Council collaborates with professionals, non-profit organizations, and family-friendly corporations to support and educate BC families just like yours.
The BC Aboriginal Child Care Society (BCACCS) was established in 1996 to administer the $12 million BC share of the federal government’s First Nations/Inuit Child Care Initiative. It incorporated as a non-profit society in 1998 and obtained charitable tax status in 2000. One federal evaluation described BCACCS as a model for other First Nations organizations in Canada.
The Aboriginal Mother Centre is dedicated to moving mothers and children at risk off the street. Under one roof, the Centre provides all the resources a mother needs to rebuild her health, self-esteem, and skills to retain or regain her child. The Centre, grounded in a grass roots setting, creates a healing environment to nurture children and families.
AIDP helps families of infants who are at risk for, or have been diagnosed with, developmental delays. Programs are voluntary and focused on children ages 0-3. AIDP consultants provide home visits, activity planning, and developmental and family needs assessments, all in a culturally-sensitive manner. Consultants also assist families in accessing other health, social, and community services.
