MVAEC is the united voice of 25 Aboriginal organizations representing 40,000 Aboriginal residents of Metro Vancouver. MVAEC has successfully engaged with businesses, community organizations, and all levels of government to advance the agenda of the urban Aboriginal population.
Britannia serves Vancouver’s Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona neighbourhoods, offering a wide range of programs for people of all ages. Programs are developed and delivered in partnership with members of the community and local agencies. Britannia’s goal is to enhance the life of everyone who lives, works, and plays in the community.
The Commission is the independent body responsible for facilitating treaty negotiations among BC First Nations, the government of BC, and the government of Canada. The Commission and the negotiation process were established in 1992 by agreement among the three parties. The Commission’s primary role is to oversee the negotiation process to make sure that the parties making progress.
The purpose of the Center is to provide a central communication office for Aboriginal Elders, their family and support workers in BC. Among the Center’s many activities are publishing the monthly newsletter the “Elders Voice” and organizing the annual BC Elders Gathering.
The BC Assembly of First Nations is unified towards self-sufficiency and vibrancy while never forgetting who we are. We envision a future where our inherent laws, lands, and traditions are recognized and respected by governments, industry and the general public.
FNES represents 10 First Nations and First Nations Employment Enterprise Centres on the Vancouver Sunshine Coast. The key to the success of FNES is that it works with local clients and local industry at the community level.
ACCESS serves urban Aboriginal clients throughout Metro Vancouver, helping them overcome barriers that may stand in the way of their success in the job market. ACCESS offers customized employment and training services. It also develops partnerships with organizations and companies seeking workers and matches their needs to the needs of clients, creating a win-win situation for both partners.
Wilma’s Transition House offers emergency housing for women and their children who have experienced violence. Guests have access to kitchen and laundry facilities, clothing donations, legal assistance, and transportation for service-related appointments.
Vi Fineday is an emergency shelter/transition house primarily, but not exclusively, for Aboriginal people. The aim is to provide culturally sensitive hospitality in a home-like environment. Services available to clients include child care, counselling, emergency clothing, and referrals to other agencies.
VACFSS serves Aboriginal children and families living in the Greater Vancouver area. It strives to culturally and spiritually strengthen Aboriginal families through holistic service delivery. It also honours the great traditions and wisdom inherent in the Aboriginal community. The goal of VACFSS is to create a stronger community through partnerships with other service providers.
