The justice service offers a non-adversarial approach that emphasizes healing for victims and meaningful accountability for offenders. Vancouver Native Health Society

Vancouver Native Health Society (VNHS) was established in 1991 to improve the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of the city’s Aboriginal residents. Today, VHNS delivers comprehensive medical, counselling, and social services to the Downtown Eastside Aboriginal community. The majority of its clients struggle with overlapping issues of substance abuse, mental illness, chronic disease, homelessness, and poverty.

Native Mental Health Association of Canada

The Native Mental Health Association of Canada is a national organization governed and managed by Aboriginal leaders. The goal of the Association is to improve the lives of Canada’s First Nations, Metis, and Inuit populations by addressing healing, wellness, and other mental health challenges.

Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS)

IRSSS is a provincial organization with a 20-year history of healing the wounds caused by the residential school system. In its early years, the Society’s focus was helping survivors bring legal claims for residential school abuses. More recently, the Society has also been assisting the descendants of survivors and implementing education measures in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities.

First Nations Emergency Services Society of BC

FNESS evolved from the Society of Native Indian Fire Fighters of BC (SNIFF), which was established in 1986. SNIFF’s initial objective was to help reduce the number of fire-related deaths on reserves. SNIFF has since changed its name to First Nations’ Emergency Services Society to reflect the greater spectrum of services that it now provides.

Cwenengitel Aboriginal Society

The Cwenengitel Aboriginal Society provides a safe environment for Aboriginal men to reside while addressing drug and alcohol addiction. The Society aims to help clients return to their community and lead a productive life. Among the services offered are counselling, life skills, and traditional healing methods, including a weekly healing circle.
