Island Métis Family and Community Services Society (IMFCSS)

IMFCSS serves the Métis community living on Vancouver Island. Its programming focuses on child safety and family wellness. The IMFCSS space includes a playground, a computer lab, a teaching garden, and a community kitchen.

M’Akola Group of Societies

The M’akola Group of Societies is the largest Aboriginal affordable housing provider in BC, serving more than 5,000 family members. M’akola offers a variety of housing options, including apartment buildings, single family dwellings, and assisted living facilities for Elders. The majority of its housing is located off-reserve in urban centres.

Cowichan Tribes Sustainable Housing Department (SHD)

SHD provides on-reserve housing services for members of the Cowichan Tribes. This includes providing infrastructure, adding to housing stock, and managing rental accommodation. These are significant responsibilities because the Cowichan are BC’s largest First Nation band, with over 4,800 members.

Victoria Native Friendship Centre

VNFC serves the estimated 20,000 Aboriginal people living off reserve in Greater Victoria. The Centre’s programs address a wide range of concerns, including employment, education, health, parenting, and at-risk youth. VNFC is also positioned to play a major role in implementing urban Aboriginal governance on southern Vancouver Island.

Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre

Tillicum Lelum serves the urban Aboriginal population of the Nanaimo region. The Centre began as a coffee drop-in 50 years ago. Today it offers educational and training programs, health and counselling services, social assistance, and a variety of activities for children, youth, adults, families and Elders.

Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre

The Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre serves the urban Aboriginal populations in Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Zeballos, and Woss, at the North end of Vancouver Island. Programs offered at the Centre include family and child development, mental health counselling, luncheons for Elders, and community health care.

Port Alberni Friendship Center

The Center’s mandate is to provide services to urban Aboriginals in the Port Alberni area. Services presently offered include counselling, recreation programs, legal help, and employment training. The Centre is a safe and welcoming place with a general drop-in atmosphere.

Lillooet Friendship Centre Society

The Lillooet Friendship Centre Society offers a wide range of services to the community. These include a pre-school, an employment centre, a food bank, and counselling for addictions. The Society also makes a major contribution to the local economy. It is the largest employer in Lillooet and generates revenues of approximately $1.8 million dollars per year.
